Unlike some other reproductions of classic texts (1) We have not used OCR(Optical Character Recognition), as this leads to bad quality books with introduced typos. (2) In books where there are images such as portraits, maps, sketches etc We have endeavoured to keep the quality of these images, so they represent accurately the original artefact. Three years in France with the Guns Being Episodes in the life of a Field Battery Rose C A 9781318850518 Books
In narrating his experience as a junior officer in the Royal Artillery in the First World War, the author provides a descriptive narrative that outlines where his unit was, what it experienced (in broad terms), and to an extent illustrates what daily life in an artillery unit was like. His account of life at an Observation Post or as a Forward Observation Officer is somewhat more illuminating than his description of life at the gun line, but even his most descriptive writing has a `stiff upper lip' air of detachment combined with Edwardian public schoolboy enthusiasm. The reader might get a broad feel for life as a First World War field gunner, but he won't get much of an idea of how this life and the human tragedy around the author affected him, his peers, or the men under his command - or learn anything about his human relationships at all.Three stars for most readers, although it may be worth an extra star for any other artillerymen reading this who may be interested to see how little some aspects of artillery life has changed?

Three years in France with the Guns Being Episodes in the life of a Field Battery Rose C A 9781318850518 Books Reviews
I love nonfiction, especially history both foreign and American. If you are the same you will like this book. It's definitely not 'light reading' but it makes you think and I like that.
This memoir was written right after World War I and before the lessons had sunk in. It is full of schoolboy enthusiasm for the war and almost completely lacking in the mud, blood and slaughter that was the reality. It is not very good on the history of the war, but it is an interesting -- if creepy -- look at the common attitudes of the time. Especially if you were far enough away from the trenches.
