“I’ve always believed for every person there was only one love that would last a lifetime. I never understood quite what it meant until I met you though. You’re it for me, Lorrie. You are my love that lasts a lifetime.” ~Curtis Walker

A love story 50 years in the making…

Curtis Walker has lived his life to the fullest and he attributes that to the woman who has always been by his side. The one thing he knows with absolute certainty he can’t live without her. Especially not now.

A love that has withstood the test of time…

It’s no secret that Curtis and Lorrie, the proud parents of the seven wild and rowdy Walker brothers, have found their happily ever after. Now, it’s time for the emotional journey of how they got there.

I have a confession to make. As much as I absolutely adore Curtis and Lorrie as the parents of all of the Walker men from the Alluring Indulgence series, I was not looking forward to reading this book. I don’t know why and I can’t explain my ambivalence when it comes to this couple. They are great parents that obviously share a deep love. They are fair minded and giving people. I just didn’t want to scratch the surface. But, since I am reading all of Nicole Edwards’ books in order of publication, I couldn’t continue my adventure without reading this book. Now that I’ve read it, I understand my trepidation even less.

The story of Curtis and Lorrie is so sweet and heartwarming and heart-breaking. I must admit, I never understood how they were married for so long before having kids. I’m a timeline weirdo and it always makes me pause when their length of marriage or ages came up and I think of Travis’ age. Not that it’s a problem to wait to have kids. It’s just Lorrie seems like the type who was born to be a mother so I was flummoxed as to why they’d wait so long to start their family. (So why didn’t I want to read this book?)

I enjoyed the tidbits of Lorrie’s diary that were scattered throughout the story while also helping to move the narrative ahead. Let’s face it, no matter how steamy and loving a couple is we don’t want to read thousands of pages of their day to day life on the ranch. Using important entries from Lorrie’s diary was a genius way to keep things moving without the reader feeling something was left out. Those entries also helped to show the growth Lorrie went through as the years went by. I loved watching her bloom from an infatuated, inexperienced, love-struck teenager to a mature, caring, sexual, love-struck woman. And honestly, knowing her thoughts and feeling when it came to sex helped me to forgive Curtis a bit.

Yep, Curtis pissed me off. But just like Lorrie, I understand why he did what he did. I don’t have to like it though! He handled things badly and even a bit immaturely. Although he was trying to protect Lorrie (and I truly believe that’s what he was doing on a conscious level), what he did was very selfish. On an unconscious level he was protecting himself more than anything else. Thankfully it all worked out in the end and may have actually prepared Lorrie to be tough enough to raise 7 boys.

The present day part of the story dragged a bit for me. Yet I can’t tell you where the author could have cut anything or even done anything differently. There was a story to be told and certain elements needed to be in place for the reader to truly understand how this felt for the family…so maybe the pacing was on purpose even.

I’m so glad I’m stickler for my own made up rules or I probably wouldn’t have picked this book up, even though I love Nicole Edwards. So if you have been dragging your feet like I was about reading Curtis please stop procrastinating. Trust me, you will love it.

Curtis The Walkers of Coyote Ridge Book 1 edition by Nicole Edwards Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

I LOVED reading Curtis and Lorrie's story. I am so grateful that Nicole wrote about them. She gives us the reason why we LOVED the Walker Brothers. They get it from their Daddy and their Momma although the boys don't want to think about that!

Reading about their" love that lasts a lifetime" was truly an enjoyable experience. I was captivated from the start.
The love that Curtis and Lorrie have for each other transcends time and it is beautiful. The deep sense of Family and commitment to staying together no matter what is admirable.

I felt good after reading their story and was almost sad it ended.
Will we be hearing about the Walker Family reunion? God I hope so.
Five stars all the way for this well written story. I highly recommend reading this along with all of the other Walker Brother books.

Thank you Nicole Edwards for being an amazing author.
I have read pretty much all of the Walker Brothers’ stories and have loved them all! While reading those stories I couldn’t help but to fall in love with Curtis and Lorrie! I mean, they are undeniably, two of the coolest parents ever! I was super excited to find out we would be getting their story and I loved every minute of it! It was a beautiful story and gave perfect insight as to why they were who they were and just made me love them all that much more.

I will say after reading this book it is quite clear where the boys get their filthy mouths!!!!! Who knew Curtis could rock those pages like that lol…..
Let me start off by saying I rarely write reviews for books. It's just not my thing and I support my favorite authors by verbally telling people about a book or author I read. That being said, there was no way I could NOT write a review for Curtis. I have been a fan of Nicole Edwards since I first came across Kaleb, the first book in the Alluring Indulgence series, over a year ago. I quickly went through the next few brothers whose stories were already written and then waited impatiently for Sawyer, Braydon and Brendon's stories. After the final brother met his HEA, I was saddened to think I wasn't going to see these characters in anything new. When I first heard that there was a book coming out about the boys' parents, Curtis and Lorrie, I didn't know quite what to expect, but I pre-ordered anyway. Due to several other books in my que, I didn't start reading Curtis until now.

The first word which comes to mind for Curtis is 'brilliant'. Nicole Edwards is a freaking genius! At the end of the book there is a note from the author where she mentioned she hated finishing the book and wished she could stay in the story forever and that is exactly what I felt as a reader. Curtis and Lorrie's story captivated me in a way I hadn't been in a very long time, despite reading many a book I've loved. I found myself slowing down and savoring each page when I realized I was about 3/4 of the way through the book. I didn't want it to end.

The way the story is written in 4 parts, starting in the present and then flashing back over 50 years in present tense, combined with Lorrie's diary entries was absolutely amazing and so well written. Their story is one of love, heartache, joy, fear, betrayal, relief, and most of all, passion. I was surprised (due to the brothers' stories) that there was no sex scenes for basically the first half of the book, but, damn, did they make up for it in the second half. Those scenes burned up my kindle.

The story spans over 50 years from the time Lorrie showed up on the Walker family's doorstep, at the tender age of 14, looking for Curtis Walker because her father told her too. What follows is a love story that will have you captivated (yes, I know I used that word twice now, but that is the best word to use). While you don't need to read all 7 brothers' stories prior to this as it is can be read as a stand-alone, I think knowing Curt and Lorrie's relationship and approval of each son and their significant other made this story even more enjoyable than if read first.

If you haven't discovered Nicole Edwards yet, I strongly recommend you do because I'm sure you'll fall in love with the Walker family as much as I did. (And I'm so glad to know the Walker stories will continue with the boys' cousin Jared.!)
